“Polish Day in Tokyo & X’mas Party + Bou-nen-kai”

(the third of the series of Polish Days in Japan by PCCIJ)

On November 25th, 2009 (Wednesday) we held Polish Day in Tokyo & X’mas Party + Bou-nen-kai” (“Bou-nen-kai” = year-end party which literally means a “party to forget the year”). This was the 3rd event of the series of Polish Days organized with the aim of promoting the bilateral co-operation, especially in the business field, between Poland and Japan, which activity is a part of the PCCIJ Chopin Project for the Chopin’s Year in 2010 to celebrate 200th Anniversary of birth of the great Polish composer.

The event started at 19:00 and featured greetings by the PCCIJ Chairman and H.E. Jadwiga Rodowicz, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, followed by music performance by the Japanese pianist Ms. Masako Ezaki who performed Andante spianato and Grand Polonaise by Chopin.

After the piano recital the guests were welcomed to enjoy Polish traditional cuisine such as barszcz czerwony, barszcz bialy, zurek, bigos, pierogi etc. (you will find the detailed menu below). Special fusion food called “la nouvelle cuisine polonaise” was presented at the event based on the Polish and Japanese recipies. The main fusion dish was the “Polan-don” (a combination of “Poland + “don”) which was also introduced at the previous events.
Mr. Toshio Numajiri, the Executive Chef of Westin Tokyo, did an excellent job to prepare one of the best sets of Polish cuisine available in Japan.

Many Polish products imported to Japan were available at the venue for trial and purchase as follows:

In the second part of the event our guest could experience a few attractions.
First of all it was a great performance of three young Japanese opera singers who belong to E-muse Music Agency (website: www.e-muse-m.com): Mr. Kyosuke Kaneyama (tenor), Mr. Hayato Oki (baritone) and Ms. Sayuri Kashiwagi (soprano) with the accompaniament by Ms. Hatsune Shimizu (piano). They performed the following pieces:
