The need to increase the use of RES concerns both Poland and Japan, especially in the light of ever more ambitious emissions reduction targets. Looking at energy and climate strategies designed by our two countries, one can find many similarities which pave to way to many opportunities for Polish-Japanese cooperation in this field.

Organizers:

Embassy of the Republic of Poland, PAIH Trade Office in Tokyo

Co-operation:

The need to increase the use of RES concerns both Poland and Japan, especially in the light of ever more ambitious emissions reduction targets. Looking at energy and climate strategies designed by our two countries, one can find many similarities which pave to way to many opportunities for Polish-Japanese cooperation in this field.

What we can observe recently in Poland in the area of RES development, is the growing interest in using the wind energy in the Baltic Sea. Due to its potential for large-scale production of clean electricity, offshore wind energy plays an increasingly important role. According to the “Energy Policy of Poland until 2040” adopted in February 2021, installed offshore wind power capacity in the Polish maritime area will reach 5.9 GW in 2030, rising to 11 GW in 2040, while Japan aims to build 10 GW in offshore wind farms by 2030, further increasing this capacity to 30-45 GW in 2040. The goals of both countries are to grow the industry on the basis of their own supply chains and to develop offshore technology.

In the light of the above, we would like to devote the topic of the first of a series of seminars to offshore wind energy. During the e-seminar, co-organized with PAIH Trade Office we would like to give a room for open dialogue between Polish and Japanese partners representing the government, energy and financial sectors, with a view to seek the establishment of a shared position on the growth of Poland and Japan’s offshore wind industry. In this energy transition led by offshore wind power, we would like to address the regulatory framework, financial needs, and project opportunities, as well as possibilities for cooperation between Poland and Japan.
